The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is delighted to announce the appointment of its new
principal conductor and artistic advisor: John Storgårds will take over the musical direction
from the coming season and support the orchestra with his profound expertise and
programmatic acumen. The joint artistic work will begin with a tour in fall 2026 and a
chamber music project in summer 2027. Following last year‘s joint tour, John Storgårds
was appointed by the general meeting of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie as the successor
to Jonathan Nott and Lothar Zagrosek, and signed the contract in the spring.
“The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is an orchestra with a true mission. In today’s
world, it is more important than ever for young, talented musicians to come together to
create music of the highest quality, driven by enthusiasm, vision, dreams, ambition, and
devotion. Such an endeavour also requires experienced leaders and conductors who
want to inspire, educate, and share in this journey. I am deeply honoured to have been
invited by this community of young, ambitious musicians to become their Principal Conductor
and Artistic Advisor. I will take on this role with all my heart, musicianship, and
experience, and I look forward especially to our annual camp and concert tour together.“
